About Lathyrus tingitanus L.
Lathyrus tingitanus L. is a wild pea species commonly called the Tangier pea. It is native to southwestern Europe and Northwest Africa, and has been introduced to other regions across the globe, including the Pacific Northwest of the United States. This annual herb grows a winged stem, and climbs using coiled tendrils. Each of its leaves consists of two linear, leaflike leaflets that are a few centimeters long. Its inflorescence holds two or three pea flowers, which come in a range of red shades; each flower can reach up to 3 centimeters (1.2 inches) wide. The plant produces a hairless, dehiscent legume pod as its fruit.
