This species is endemic to the island of Java in Indonesia.
Known Occurrences in Java
Within Java, it can be found in Mount Halimun Salak National Park, Ujung Kulon National Park, and Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park in West Java, and also in the Dieng Nature Reserve in Central Java.
Habitat Characteristics
Its natural habitats are clear, fast-flowing streams and torrents, located both in forests and somewhat more open landscapes.
Population Status and Threats
It is a common species in its specific preferred habitat, which is currently threatened by stream sedimentation and agro-chemical pollution.
