About Hexagrammos lagocephalus (Pallas, 1810)
Nomenclature
Hexagrammos lagocephalus, commonly called the rock greenling, is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the greenling family Hexagrammidae. It is sometimes referred to as the fringed greenling, and is incorrectly known as the red rock trout.
Geographic Distribution
The natural distribution of the rock greenling extends along the Pacific Coast, from the Kuril Islands and the Bering Sea down to the coast of southern California.
Habitat Preference
This fish prefers to live on rocky shorelines, though it can also sometimes be found in tidepools and sandy areas.
