General Distribution Range

This species is found across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia, as well as on a number of islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Native Distribution

Its confirmed native distribution includes: India (Shevaroy Hills, Anaimalai, Nilgiri Hills), Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka, Indochina, Vietnam (Chapa, Tongking), Thailand, West Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, Philippines (Panay), Indonesia (Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sumbawa, Komodo), China, Taiwan, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Tonga, Marquesas Islands, Society Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Solomon Islands, Fiji Islands (Vanua Levu, Viti Levu), Mauritius, Reunion, and Rodrigues (reported by F. Glaw via personal communication).

Introduced Distribution

It has been introduced to the Ryukyu Islands (Japan), specifically Iriomotejima Island, and to Hawaii in the United States.

Type Localities

The species' type localities are "Agam" (West Sumatra, per Kluge 1968) and "Goenong Parong (Java)" (now Gunung Parang, West Java, per Wermuth 1965).
