Hapalemur griseus (Link, 1795)

Nomenclature

The eastern lesser bamboo lemur, scientifically named Hapalemur griseus (Link, 1795), is also commonly called the gray bamboo lemur, gray gentle lemur, and Mahajanga lemur.

Endemicity and Subspecies

This is a small lemur species that is endemic to Madagascar, and three subspecies are currently recognized.

Diet

As its common name suggests, the eastern lesser bamboo lemur feeds primarily on bamboo.

Members of the genus Hapalemur, which includes this species, have greater manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination than most other lemur species.
