About Gymnostachys anceps R.Br.
Gymnostachys is a monotypic genus in the arum plant family Araceae, meaning the genus contains only one species. The only described species is Gymnostachys anceps, which has the common names settler's flax, settler's twine, and boorgay. This species is native to coastal and sub-coastal regions of eastern Australia, ranging from near Ulladulla, New South Wales, to around Rossville at the base of Cape York Peninsula. Because of its unique characteristics — including an unusually structured flowering shoot and linear leaves with parallel venation — Gymnostachys is classified in the subfamily Gymnostachydoideae.
