About Erythranthe rubella (A.Gray) N.S.Fraga

Erythranthe rubella is an annual herb that grows between 2 and 32 centimeters tall. It has a very slender red stem. Leaves are arranged oppositely, can grow up to 3 centimeters long, and range in shape from lance-shaped to oval. Lower leaves attach to the stem via short petioles. Most of the plant's soft green to reddish foliage is lightly covered in fine hairs. Its small tubular flowers are no longer than 1 centimeter; the base of the flower tube is enclosed in a narrow, ribbed calyx made of sepals. Flower color can be yellow or pink, and the opening of the flower is typically dotted with red or purple spots. This species is native to western North America. Its range extends from the southwestern United States north to Wyoming and east to Texas, and south into Baja California and Sonora in northern Mexico.
