About Diplacus bigelovii (A.Gray) G.L.Nesom
Diplacus bigelovii is a hairy annual herb that grows an erect stem between 2 and 25 centimeters tall. This species is variable in size, shape, and color; its herbage ranges from green to nearly red in color. Its pointed oval or rounded leaves grow in opposite pairs along the stem, and each leaf reaches up to 3.5 centimeters in length. The tubular base of the flower is surrounded by a reddish-green or purple ribbed calyx of hairy sepals that have long lobe tips. The trumpet-shaped flower corolla is approximately 1 to 2 centimeters long, with a very narrow tube and a wide mouth. The corolla has two upper lobes and three lower lobes, and is generally magenta or deep pink, with darker red, purple, and yellow spots in its throat.
