It is a twining vine native to the Southeastern United States and the Ozark Mountains.
Habitat
Within its native range, it occurs in scattered calcareous regions, growing on limestone outcrops, in thickets, and in dry woods.

It produces flowers during the summer.
Distinguishing Features
It can be told apart from similar-looking species by its white-waxy, generally hairless, leathery leaves, and its flowers that range in color from lavender to cream.
