About Clematis alpina (L.) Mill.
Clematis alpina, commonly called Alpine clematis, is a deciduous flowering vine that belongs to the genus Clematis. Like many other species in this genus, it is valued by gardeners for its attractive showy flowers. It produces spring flowers that measure 1 to 3 inches across, grow on long stalks, and come in a very wide range of colors. C. alpina is native to Europe. In the United States, it grows best in American Horticultural Society zones 6 through 9, which are generally located in the southern United States. Known cultivars of this species include the pale pink 'Willy', dark blue 'Helsingborg', and lavender blue 'Pamela Jackman'. The cultivar Clematis alpina 'Pamela Jackman' has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
