Taxonomy and Nomenclature
Chiromantis nongkhorensis (Cochran, 1927), also known by synonyms Chirixalus nongkhorensis and common names including the Nongkhor Asian treefrog, Nongkhor pigmy tree frog, Nong Khor bushfrog, and Nongkhor foam-nest treefrog, is a species of frog in the family Rhacophoridae.
Geographic Range
It is found in north-eastern India (Assam), Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Peninsular Malaysia.
Habitat Characteristics
This species occurs across a wide range of both open and forested habitats that are often affected by human disturbance, at elevations ranging from 78 m to 1,660 m (256 ft to 5,446 ft) above sea level.
Breeding Behavior
Its breeding takes place around the rainy season next to still bodies of water.
Reproductive Strategy
Females lay eggs in foam nests attached to the underside of leaves that overhang water; when tadpoles hatch, they drop into the water below.
Threat Status
This species could be threatened by forest loss, although it appears to be quite adaptable.
Conservation Presence
It can be found within a number of existing protected areas.
