Canthigaster punctatissima, commonly called the spotted sharpnose puffer or the spotted sharpnosed puffer, is a species of pufferfish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae.
Native Distribution
This species is native to the Eastern Pacific Ocean, and its distribution ranges from Guaymas, Mexico to Panama and the Galápagos Islands.
Related Species Range
In the Western Pacific, it is replaced by its close relative C. janthinoptera, while in the Hawaiian Islands it is replaced by its close relative C. jactator.
Habitat, Depth and Size
It inhabits sheltered rocky reef areas, occurs at depths between 3 and 21 meters (which equals 10 to 69 feet), and grows to a total length of 9 centimeters (3.5 inches).
Mating System
This species is documented to be monogamous.
