Nomenclature and Taxonomic Placement
Calotes bachae, commonly called the Cochinchina lizard, is a species of lizard belonging to the family Agamidae.
Geographic Range
This species has been recorded in southern Vietnam and eastern Cambodia, and its range may extend into southern Laos.
Habitat Locations
It can be found in open areas of Cat Tien National Park, dense tropical forests in Bu Gia Map National Park, and parks in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.
Previous Taxonomic Classification
Due to their similar physical appearance, Calotes bachae was previously classified as Calotes mystaceus, a species that inhabits Burma and Thailand.
Species Distinction Evidence
Genetic analysis plus study of size and scale characteristics confirmed that the two are separate species.
