Boana riojana is a species of frog that belongs to the Hylidae tree frog family.
Distribution Range
Its known distribution covers the eastern Andes and Andean foothills, ranging from Argentina's La Rioja Province north to northern Bolivia; it may also occur further north into adjacent Peru.
Common Name Origin
The common name Carrizo's tree frog has been applied to this species in reference to Boana varelae, which was formerly recognized as a separate species before being synonymized.
Elevation Range
This species occurs at different elevation ranges across its distribution: in the northern part of its range, it is found from 1,650 to 3,400 meters (5,410 to 11,150 feet), while in the southern part it occurs from 500 to 1,640 meters (1,640 to 5,380 feet).
