Nomenclature

The titan triggerfish, also called giant triggerfish or moustache triggerfish, has the scientific name Balistoides viridescens. This is a large triggerfish species.

Habitat and Distribution

It is found in lagoons and reefs at depths up to 50 meters (160 feet) across most of the Indo-Pacific region, but it is not present in Hawaii.

Size

It can reach a maximum length of 75 centimeters (30 inches), making it the largest triggerfish species within its native range.

Related Species Range

The larger stone triggerfish (Pseudobalistes naufragium) occurs only in the east Pacific.
