Artedius lateralis, commonly called the smoothhead sculpin or round-nosed sculpin, is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the Cottidae family, the group that includes typical sculpins.
Distribution
This species is native to the northern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Russia and the Bering Sea to Baja California.
Habitat and Depth Range
It is most commonly found in the intertidal zone, and can occur at depths down to 43 feet.
Size and Etymology
It reaches a maximum recorded length of 14 centimeters, and gets its common name from its scaleless head.
