About Anemone hortensis L.
Anemone hortensis L. grows to an average height of 20โ40 centimeters (7.9โ15.7 inches). It has an erect, pubescent stem. Its basal leaves grow on petioles 5โ10 centimeters (2.0โ3.9 inches) long, and are palmate or hand-shaped, with 3โ5 toothed lobes. The solitary, fragrant flowers are 3โ6 centimeters (1.2โ2.4 inches) in diameter, and their color ranges from white-bluish or mauve to red-purple. Flowers have 12โ20 lanceolate, acute petals, numerous bluish or violet stamens, and blue anthers. This species flowers from March through May. It is pollinated by wind, and its seeds are dispersed by animals. Anemone hortensis is endemic to the Mediterranean basin, and is distributed across France, Italy, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Turkey. It grows at altitudes between 0 and 1,200 meters (0 to 3,937 feet) above sea level, and rarely reaches up to 1,800 meters (5,900 feet). It can be found growing in woods, vineyards, lawns, and among bushes.
