About Amolops marmoratus (Blyth, 1855)
Sexual Size Dimorphism
Amolops marmoratus is a relatively small species within the genus Amolops that displays distinct sexual size dimorphism.
Size Measurements
Males of this species reach a snout-vent length of 38–48 mm (1.5–1.9 inches), while females grow to 70–79 mm (2.8–3.1 inches).
Confirmed Distribution
This species is only confirmed to be present in Myanmar, and is thought to also occur in northern Thailand; it may have a wider range beyond these areas.
Broader Reported Range
For example, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) used a broader, less strict definition of this species and reported that it can also be found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, and Nepal.
2004 IUCN Conservation Assessment
The IUCN assessed Amolops marmoratus as Least Concern in 2004, based on its reported wide distribution and presumed large population.
Need for Reassessment
However, the recognition that this group actually contains higher biodiversity means that its conservation status needs to be reassessed.
Habitat
Like other members of the genus Amolops, Amolops marmoratus inhabits areas near fast-flowing mountain streams.
