About Amaranthus fimbriatus (Torr.) Benth.
Amaranthus fimbriatus (Torr.) Benth. is a glabrous flowering plant species belonging to the Amaranthaceae family. It is commonly called fringed amaranth or fringed pigweed. This species is an annual herb that typically reaches a height of up to 0.7 m, or 2 feet. Its flowers range in color from greenish to maroon. This plant occurs naturally in North America and Mexico. It most frequently grows on sandy or gravelly slopes, in semideserts, or in disturbed habitats. In these arid regions, it usually blooms following summer rains. Amaranthus fimbriatus is classified as an invasive weed. Two varieties of this species have been formally described: Amaranthus fimbriatus var. fimbriatus and Amaranthus fimbriatus var. denticulatus. The only small differences between the two varieties are found in their tepals.
