Common Name and Classification
Abudefduf lorenzi, commonly called the black-tail sergeant, is a damselfish species belonging to the family Pomacentridae.
Distribution
This species is native to the tropical western Pacific Ocean, with a distribution ranging from the Philippines and the Maluku Islands to the Solomon Islands and Palau.
Depth Range
Adult Abudefduf lorenzi are usually found along protected coasts at depths between 1 and 6 meters (3 to 20 feet).
Habitat and Aggregation
They often occur near breakwaters and docks, where they form loose aggregations. Individual fish are also frequently seen scattered across nearshore areas.
Reproduction
This species is oviparous; during breeding, individuals form distinct pairs, and males guard and aerate the eggs.
Maximum Length
Abudefduf lorenzi can grow to a total length of 18 centimeters (7.1 inches).
