Taxonomy and Naming

Chromis hypsilepis, scientifically described by Günther in 1867, is a damselfish belonging to the genus Chromis. It is called the one-spot puller in New Zealand and the brown puller in Australia.

Geographic Distribution

This species is found off the coast of south-east Australia, and between North Cape and East Cape on the North Island of New Zealand.

Habitat and Depth Range

It inhabits rocky coasts at depths up to around 60 metres.

Size

It grows to a total length between 15 and 20 centimetres.
