About Abronia mellifera Douglas

Abronia mellifera Douglas is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant that grows decumbent or ascending stems reaching up to 46 cm (18 inches) in length. Its leaves are connected to petioles that measure 1โ€“6 cm (0.39โ€“2.36 inches) long. Leaf blades range from ovate to lance-elliptic in shape, measuring 1โ€“6 cm long and 0.5โ€“4 cm wide. Leaf margins are entire to sinuate, and blade surfaces are either glabrous or slightly pubescent. Each inflorescence holds 25โ€“60 individual flowers. The perianth tube is pale rose towards its proximal end and green towards its distal end, and measures 15โ€“25 mm long. This plant usually flowers between spring and fall. Abronia mellifera is endemic to the Northwestern United States, occurring naturally in Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. It grows in grasslands, on sandy soils, and in cold desert scrub, at elevations between 100โ€“2,000 m (330โ€“6,560 ft) above sea level.
