About Abronia mellifera Douglas
Abronia mellifera Douglas is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant that grows decumbent or ascending stems reaching up to 46 cm (18 inches) in length. Its leaves are connected to petioles that measure 1โ6 cm (0.39โ2.36 inches) long. Leaf blades range from ovate to lance-elliptic in shape, measuring 1โ6 cm long and 0.5โ4 cm wide. Leaf margins are entire to sinuate, and blade surfaces are either glabrous or slightly pubescent. Each inflorescence holds 25โ60 individual flowers. The perianth tube is pale rose towards its proximal end and green towards its distal end, and measures 15โ25 mm long. This plant usually flowers between spring and fall. Abronia mellifera is endemic to the Northwestern United States, occurring naturally in Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. It grows in grasslands, on sandy soils, and in cold desert scrub, at elevations between 100โ2,000 m (330โ6,560 ft) above sea level.
