About Trichostema suffrutescens Kearney

Trichostema suffrutescens Kearney is a woody or semi-woody perennial herb; its specific epithet "suffrutescens" reflects this growth form. Like other species in the genus Trichostema, it has opposite leaves, square stems, and bilaterally symmetrical flowers, which are characteristic of the mint family. Detailed diagnostic morphological features for this species were included in its original published description, and in later floristic treatments. This species is endemic to the Mt. Dora, Trail Ridge, and Orlando ridges of Florida. It grows only in scrub, sandhill, and other similar dry upland habitats. Additional information about its specific habitat preferences has been recorded in regional floras and botanical surveys.
