Nomenclature

Boettger's wall gecko, with the scientific name Tarentola boettgeri Steindachner, 1891, is also commonly called the Gran Canaria gecko. It is a species of lizard that belongs to the family Phyllodactylidae.

Native Range

This species is native to the Canary Islands and the Savage Islands, and three subspecies are currently recognized. In the Canary Islands, the subspecies T. b. boettgeri is native to Gran Canaria, while T. b. hierrensis is native to El Hierro.

Introduced Range

An introduced population of T. boettgeri can be found in Galicia, Spain. The subspecies T. b. bischoffi is indigenous to the Savage Islands.

Habitat

The preferred habitats of T. boettgeri are shrubby vegetation, rocky areas, rocky shores, and rural gardens.

Reproduction

T. boettgeri reproduces by laying eggs, meaning it is oviparous.
