The peninsula leaf-toed gecko, scientifically known as Phyllodactylus nocticolus, is a medium-sized gecko species.
Distribution Range
It is distributed in southern California, United States, and the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico.
Island Distribution
Its range also includes many islands in the Gulf of California, plus Islas Magdalena and Santa Margarita off the west coast of Baja California Sur.
California Range
In California, this gecko only occupies a small portion of the state.
California Range Specifics
It is abundant from the U.S.-Mexico border, through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, to an area just north of Palm Springs.
Baja California Range
It can be found throughout the entire length of the Baja California peninsula.
Habitat
This species inhabits areas with desert shrubs and large open rocks.
Microhabitat
It also lives in desert chaparral, and can often be found in small crevices or on large bare rocks.
