Scientific name: Stylosanthes hamata (L.) Taub. Stylosanthes hamata, common name Caribbean stylo, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. It is native to the Caribbean islands and nearby mainland regions: Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Venezuela. It has been introduced as a forage crop to Florida, Peru, Brazil, the Gambia, Burkina Faso, Benin, India, Thailand, Hainan, and northern Australia. It has both diploid and tetraploid cultivars. Tetraploid cultivars are more drought tolerant and are more frequently sown for pasture.
