About Strobilanthes cusia (Nees) Kuntze

Strobilanthes cusia (Nees) Kuntze, commonly called Assam indigo or Chinese rain bell, is a perennial dicot flowering plant in the family Acanthaceae. It is native to South Asia, China, and Indochina. Historically, it was cultivated on a large scale in India and China to produce indigo dye, which is also referred to as Assam indigo. Besides its use for dye, it is an ingredient in the traditional Chinese herbal medicine known as Qingdai. Other common names for this species include Pink strobilanthes, and an alternative scientific synonym for it is Strobilanthes flaccidifolius; the specific epithet flaccidifolius is Latin for "drooping leaves".
