Nomenclature and Taxonomy
Stenocercus guentheri, commonly called Günther's whorltail iguana, and known as la guagsa de Günther in South American Spanish, is a species of lizard belonging to the family Tropiduridae.
Native Range
This species is native to northwestern South America. S. guentheri is geographically distributed in Colombia and Ecuador.
Habitat and Altitude
Its preferred natural habitat is shrubland, found at altitudes ranging from 1,230 to 3,700 meters (4,040 to 12,140 feet), but individuals have also been recorded living in gardens, plantations, pastures, and urban areas.
Reproduction
S. guentheri is oviparous, and it may provide a small amount of parental care.
