About Stachys coccinea Ortega

Stachys coccinea, commonly called scarlet hedgenettle or Texas betony, is an ornamental plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is native to the region ranging from Arizona to Texas in the United States, and from Baja California Sur, Mexico to Nicaragua. This species has several named cultivars. Stachys coccinea 'Chinook' is a long-blooming cultivar with coral-red flowers, and mature plants grow to around 40 cm (15 in) tall. Stachys coccinea 'Hidalgo' produces coral-red flowers, grows between 30 and 45 cm (12–18 in) tall, and is sometimes classified under the name Stachys albotomentosa. Stachys coccinea 'Hot Spot Coral' bears coral-red flowers, with plants growing to 45 cm (18 in) tall. Stachys coccinea 'Pow Wow' has brick-red flowers, and its plants grow to around 30 cm (12 in) tall.
