About Sophora cassioides (F.Phil.) Sparre

Sophora cassioides (F.Phil.) Sparre is a legume tree endemic to central and southern Chile. It is one of two Sophora species that are endemic to continental Chile, with the other being Sophora macrocarpa; all other Sophora species in Chile are endemic to insular Chile. This species is endemic to southern Chile and Gough Island. In South America, it occurs between Constitución and Puyuhuapi. It favors shady locations in Myrtaceae stands, growing alongside Drimys, Caldcluvia, and other hygrophyllous species. Putative hybrids between Sophora cassioides and Sophora macrocarpa have been recorded at Bullileo, Linares. It can also be found in coastal areas associated with the Peumus boldus–Persea lingue plant community.
