About Solidago sphacelata Raf.
Solidago sphacelata, commonly called false goldenrod or autumn goldenrod, is a North American goldenrod species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the eastern United States, ranging from Virginia and the Carolinas westward to Illinois and Mississippi. This species is a drought-tolerant perennial herb that grows up to 120 cm (4 feet) tall, and has an underground caudex and rhizomes. A single plant can produce up to 250 small yellow flower heads arranged in a large branching cluster at the top of the stem. The bright yellow color of its flowers primarily attracts butterfly pollinators.
