Growth Form
Silene vallesia L. is a perennial, hairy, sticky plant with ascending flowering stems. It grows between 5 and 15 centimetres (2.0–5.9 inches) tall.
Leaf Characteristics
Its leaves are opposite, oblong-lanceolate, gradually getting smaller toward the top of the plant, and 1–3 centimetres (0.39–1.18 inches) long.
Inflorescence Traits
Its inflorescence is a raceme that holds only 1 to 3 flowers, with the inflorescence measuring 2–2.5 centimetres (0.79–0.98 inches) long.
Petal Appearance
The petals are pale pink, split into two deep, oval lobes.
Flowering Period
This species flowers from June to August.
Geographic Range
It is widespread from the western Alps through to the Apennines.
Habitat and Elevation
It grows in rocky areas, rocky pastures, and slopes at elevations between 900 and 2,500 metres (3,000–8,200 feet) above sea level.
