Previously, the Sunda warbler was classified under the genus Seicercus.

Phylogenetic Study Finding

A molecular phylogenetic study released in 2018 discovered that both the genera Phylloscopus and Seicercus were not monophyletic.

Genus Merger

Following this finding, the two genera were merged into a single genus, Phylloscopus.

Nomenclature Basis

This merger follows the rules of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, which states that Phylloscopus has naming priority.
