Scutellaria cardiophylla Engelm. & A.Gray, commonly called gulf skullcap or heartleaf skullcap, is a flowering plant species belonging to the mint family. It is native to the U.S. states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Across most of its natural range, this species is classified as rare or imperiled. Skullcap species get their common name, and can be recognized, by their distinctively crested calyx. This plant grows in habitats with rocky or sandy soil, including seepage areas, old fields, banks, grassy areas within open woodlands, and woodland edges.
