Native Distribution
Its native range includes Brazil, the Guyanas (Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname), Venezuela, and Colombia.
Introduced Populations
Introduced populations of this species have established on Guadeloupe, two smaller nearby islands (Marie Galante and La Désirade), and Martinique.

Current research suggests this taxon may actually encompass more than one distinct species.
