About Salvia chamelaeagnea Berg.

Salvia chamelaeagnea Berg. is a species of flowering sage, a plant group in the genus Salvia. It is endemic to South Africa, growing along the western coastline of the Cape of Good Hope. This shrubby perennial herb can reach up to 6 feet (1.8 metres) in height and 4 feet (1.2 metres) in width. It produces light violet-blue flowers that measure three-quarters of an inch (two centimetres) across, with pale lower lips and white throats. When brushed, its small green leaves give off a faint medicinal scent. In its native wild habitat, it grows in sandy soil in streambeds, open fields, and roadsides. It is cultivated for use in garden planting. In Afrikaans, its common names are Afrikaanse salie and bloublommetjiesalie.
