About Salvia austriaca Jacq.

Salvia austriaca, commonly called Austrian sage, is native to high altitude regions across Russia and eastern Europe. This species forms a basal leaf rosette that can reach 1 meter across. When the rosette is brushed, it releases an unpleasant, fetid odor. Individual leaves grow to approximately 30 centimeters in length, with indented midribs and indented veins. Its flower stalk rises 60 centimeters or more above the leafy foliage. The plant produces pale yellow flowers arranged in whorls of six or more, which form an overall inflorescence that is 20 to 25 centimeters long.
