Salvia eremostachya, commonly known as rose sage, sand sage, or Californian desert sage, is a perennial shrub. It is native to the western edge of the Colorado Desert.

Height

This plant grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet (0.61 to 0.91 meters).

Flower Characteristics

Its flowers measure 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) across, and range in color from blue to rose to nearly white, growing alongside purplish green bracts.

Flower Arrangement and Bloom Period

The flowers are arranged in whorled clusters, and bloom between April and November.

Etymology of Specific Epithet

The species' specific epithet, "eremostachya", means "desert stachys" in Greek, and refers to this plant's similarity to species in the genus Stachys.
