About Rhexia virginica L.

Rhexia virginica L. is a perennial herb that can be easily recognized by its distinctly angled stems. It grows purple-pink flowers in summer, and these flowers rely on buzz pollination for reproduction. The leaves of Rhexia virginica are arranged oppositely on the stem, and can be either elliptic or ovate in shape. Mature leaves can reach 7 centimeters (around 2.75 inches) long and 2.6 centimeters (around 1 inch) wide. Fully grown stems can reach a maximum height of 9 decimeters (around 35 inches). This species is distributed in eastern North America, ranging from Florida to Maine in the eastern United States, and extending north into Ontario and Nova Scotia. It has been recorded growing in savannas, flatwoods, and wet ditches.
