About Ranunculus platanifolius L.
Ranunculus platanifolius L., commonly known as the large white buttercup, is an herbaceous plant that reaches 30 to 100 cm in height. Its stem is glabrous and produces many branches. The leaves are palmate, with each leaf divided into five segments that have dentate margins. Flowers grow in cymes. Each individual flower has a calyx with five sepals, a corolla with five white petals, numerous stamens with yellow anthers, and many styles. Its fruits are hooked achenes.
This species grows in mountain woods and forests across Europe, at elevations between 800 and 2000 meters above sea level. Like other members of the Ranunculaceae family, this plant is toxic due to its anemonin content.
