About Pterostylis acuminata R.Br.

Pterostylis acuminata, commonly called the sharp greenhood, produces a rosette of three to six dark green, oblong leaves. Each leaf measures 10โ€“40 mm (0.4โ€“2 in) long and 8โ€“20 mm (0.3โ€“0.8 in) wide. A single green and white flower grows on a 150โ€“250 mm (6โ€“10 in) tall flowering spike. The flowers are 19โ€“25 mm (0.7โ€“1 in) long, 9โ€“12 mm (0.4โ€“0.5 in) wide, and lean forward in a nodding habit. The dorsal sepal and petals are fused, curving forward to form a hood over the flower's column. The tip of this hood is sharply pointed and brownish in color. A broad, bulging gap occurs in the sinus between the two lateral sepals, and a large gap sits between the lateral sepals and petals. The lateral sepals bear thread-like tips 20โ€“25 mm (0.8โ€“1 in) long. The labellum curves outward and protrudes through the sinus; it is 14โ€“16 mm (0.55โ€“0.63 in) long, about 4 mm (0.2 in) wide, curved, reddish-brown, and pointed. Flowering takes place between March and May. This species grows in coastal forest and heath habitats in Queensland and New South Wales, with an additional isolated population located in far eastern Victoria.
