Adult Size

Dorsal Coloration

Their base color ranges from light grey and brown to green, marked with darker longitudinal blotches, and they have a distinctive dark spot running underneath the eye.

Taxonomic Controversy

There is ongoing taxonomic controversy over this group: some authorities treat it as a single species with two subspecies, the nominotypical Strecker's chorus frog (Pseudacris streckeri streckeri Wright & Wright, 1933) and the Illinois chorus frog (Pseudacris streckeri illinoensis (Smith, 1951)), while others recognize the Illinois chorus frog as a separate full species.

Collins first recognized the Illinois chorus frog as its own species; this treatment has been adopted by ASW6.0 and Amphibiaweb, based on the taxon's diagnosability from P. streckeri and its allopatric distribution.
