This species is endemic to the United States. Its distribution spans the Southeastern United States, ranging from southeastern Virginia to northern Georgia.
Regional Occurrence
It occurs mostly along the Atlantic coastal plain, though it can also be found in the Piedmont region of Virginia and South Carolina, and in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia.
Habitat
Its habitat is mostly restricted to bottomland hardwood forests.

NatureServe lists this species' conservation status as Secure, but population declines have been recorded in every studied population of this species.
