About Platanthera stricta Lindl.

Platanthera stricta Lindl. is an orchid species that goes by the common name slender bog orchid. It is native to western North America, ranging from Alaska and Yukon in the north, southward to Utah and northern California. This orchid grows in wet habitats, including shady forest meadows. It grows a slender, erect flowering stem that can reach up to around 80 centimetres, or 31 inches, tall. The longest leaves are located near the base of the stem, reaching up to 11 centimetres, or 4+1⁄3 inches, long by 2.5 centimetres, or 1 inch, wide. The inflorescence bears widely spaced green flowers, which are sometimes tinged with red or purple. The sepals and petals measure around one-half centimeter, or 1⁄4 inch, long, and each flower features a club-shaped spur.
