About Philodendron squamiferum Poepp.

Philodendron squamiferum Poepp. is a rare houseplant. It has distinctive five-lobed (five-partite) dark green leaves, and a scaly reddish petiole. This plant is toxic due to the calcium oxalate crystals it contains. Contact with oxalate crystals from the plant can cause pain and swelling when they touch the skin or mouth. If ingested, the crystals can lead to pain, swelling, hoarseness, and difficulty swallowing.
