About Persoonia sericea A.Cunn. ex R.Br.
Persoonia sericea A.Cunn. ex R.Br., commonly known as silky geebung, is an erect to spreading shrub. Its leaves and young branches are covered in soft, silky hairs. The leaves range in shape from lance-shaped to egg-shaped (with the narrower end at the base), or elliptic to spatula-shaped, and measure 15โ60 mm (0.6โ2 in) long and 2โ21 mm (0.08โ0.8 in) wide. Hairy flowers are arranged singly or in small groups in leaf axils, growing on a pedicel 2โ12 mm (0.08โ0.5 in) long. Each flower has four tepals 9โ11 mm (0.4 in) long that are fused at the base, with rolled-back tips. A central style is surrounded by four yellow anthers, which are also joined at the base with rolled-back tips, giving the flower a cross-like shape when viewed end-on. The ovary is densely hairy. This species grows in woodland and forest habitats, distributed north from Grenfell in New South Wales and in south-eastern Queensland. Clumps of young P. sericea seedlings have been observed growing out of decaying kangaroo dung near Brisbane.
