About Penstemon rupicola (Piper) Howell
Penstemon rupicola is a penstemon species that is commonly called cliff beardtongue or rock penstemon. This plant is native to the west coast of the United States, where its range extends from Washington down to the Klamath Mountains of far northern California. It grows in rocky mountainous habitats in this region. It is a clumpy, mat-forming subshrub that reaches a maximum height of 14 centimeters. Its leaves are thick, waxy, arranged oppositely, shaped round or oval, and can grow up to 2 centimeters long. The showy, wide-mouthed tubular flowers that grow from the mat can be nearly 4 centimeters long, and range in color from light purple to bright pink. This plant has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
