Paranomus tomentosus (E.Phillips & Hutch.) N.E.Br. is a shrub that grows up to 3 m (9.8 ft) tall, making it the largest species in its genus. This species flowers from September to November. While wildfire kills the adult plant, its seeds can survive the fire. Paranomus tomentosus produces bisexual flowers and is pollinated by insects. Its fruit ripens two months after flowering, after which the seeds fall to the ground and are dispersed by ants. In Afrikaans, this species is called Harige septerboom, and it has a national plant number of 72.5. This species is found in the Cederberg Mountains, where it grows in rocky locations within sandstone fynbos, at altitudes ranging from 1,000–1,600 m (3,300–5,200 ft).
