About Paranomus bolusii (Gand.) Levyns

This shrub species, scientifically named Paranomus bolusii (Gand.) Levyns, grows to a maximum height of 1.0 meter (3.3 feet). It mainly flowers between June and November. While fire will kill the entire plant, its seeds are able to survive the fire. Individual plants are bisexual, and pollination is carried out by insects. The fruit of the plant ripens two months after flowering finishes, after which seeds fall to the ground. Fallen seeds are then spread by ants. In Afrikaans, this species is called Overbergsepter. Paranomus bolusii is distributed across Groenlandberg, Riviersonderendberge, Babilonstoringberge, Kleinrivierberge, Caledon, and the Swartberg. It grows in substrates of sandstone and Cederberg shale, at altitudes ranging from 150 to 700 meters (490 to 2,300 feet).
