Adult Coloration
Adults of Ostracion immaculatus are yellow and blue, with light blue spots on each plate-like scale that forms their carapace.
Juvenile Coloration
Juveniles are bright yellow with small pale blue and black spots; the black spots fade as the fish grows, while the blue spots expand.
Maximum Size
This species has a maximum published standard length of 25 cm (9.8 in).
Geographic Distribution
Ostracion immaculatus is found in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, ranging from the southern coasts of Hokkaido south through the Japanese archipelago to Taiwan, and along the Asian mainland coast from Korea to Hong Kong.
Depth Range
It occurs at depths between 1 and 60 m (3 ft 3 in and 196 ft 10 in), living on nearshore reefs in shallow water with a rocky bottom.
